The names Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin and Bugatti all invoke the synergy of function and style, art and design, high-technology and hand-craftsmanship. So do the names Audemars Piguet, Breitling, Blancpain and Chopard. With both high-end auto
makers and master watchmakers sharing the same passion for their work, collaborations between them are only natural. You know when you’re driving back from the Maserati dealership and you want something a little more matching than just a t-shirt, why not swing by the Audemars Piguet store? What if you find yourself strolling out of a Audemars Piguet store with a new tourbillion on your wrist and want a car to go with it? Well, you’re in luck: I’ve saved you precious track time by picking out eleven pairs to share over 10 days. The final bill totaling $13.2 million in supercars with $1.2 million in matching luxury watches.
#1: Aston Martin DBS ($300,000) with the Jaeger LeCoultre Amvox2 DBS ($30,000)
The Amvox series was created for Jaeger LeCoultre’s partnership with Aston Martin. The Amvox2 brought a new advancement into the sports chronograph category, succinct to Aston Martin’s sublime styling and performance. Following the signature glass push-button starter found on Aston Martin dashboards, the Amvox2’s timer is controlled by pressing its crystal sapphire face. This feature is a first in its class, where you’d normally find push-button pieces protruding from the face to control the timer. The unique innovation gives this watch a sleeker look worthy of an Aston Martin dashboard. Named to match James bond’s current whip, the DBS is built off the modern classic DB9, but with a more aggressive appearance to compliment it’s improved performance. While the Amvox2 is available in a range of finishes and styles to the public, the “transponder” feature is only available to MI6 agents or Aston Martin owners. This allows you to automatically unlock your DB9 or DBS with just a tap of the face. You need to hit 12 o’clock to start/stop the timer, 6 o’clock to reset and 3 o’clock to unlock/lock. For anyone who thinks grabbing this watch equals a joyride in any Aston Martin, remember, the Amvox transponder does not disable flamethrowers or ejection seats. I heard a rumour a good Sean Connery impression will, but don’t count on it.
