When it comes to luxury watches, Chanel isn’t the first high fashion brand that comes to mind, but they’ve actually been producing watches now for 25 years, starting with their first watch, the original Premiere. Following the popular female Premiere watch launched in 1987, they followed it up with the also popular unisex J12 watch in 2000. While unisex, the J12 watch found its success with the ladies and is a common timepiece with female celebrities. With female watches never a priority with most luxury watch makers or high fashion houses, Chanel has a good plan focusing on them. Along with their Premeire and J12 collections, they have also released several exclusive Haute Joaillerie watches and their first tourbillon with a J12 model released in 2005. As a display of their continued success, they are introducing their first Premiere watch to feature a tourbillon, which is sure to be a hit with the smaller market of higher-end ladies watches.

The new Chanel Premier comes in the same iconic shape and proportions as the original Premier, but is larger to accommodate the tourbillon with a 28.5 x 37mm case size. The case is crafted out of 18 karat white gold, but is completely paved with diamonds, including even the hands. There are 101 baguette-cut diamonds and 127 brilliant-cut diamonds used for a total of 228, weighting in at 7.2 carats.

This flying tourbillon is new, developed by Chanel and the advanced research and development branch of Audemars Piguet. The impressive flying tourbillon is adorned with a Camellia flower, which was Coco Chanel’s favorite flower. The Camellia is not just decoration, but is integrated into the design. The interlocked flower petals indicate the seconds while the flying tourbillon makes a full rotation in one minute. The center of the Camellia is then stamped with diamonds as well.
