Two years after they first announced their partnership, Hublot has finally released a limited edition watch for Usain Bolt, the world’s fastest man. Named the King Power Usain Bolt, it is based on the big King Power chronograph,the top choice for a sports-related Hublot timepiece. While two years isn’t a long turn-around for limited edition Swiss watch, Hublot has produced special models much quicker for other ambassadors or sponsorships. I figure this watch’s release was perfectly timed, just before Bolt is set to defend his record at the upcoming Olympic Games in London.
This watch starts with Hublot’s “King Power” case, measuring a large 58mm, with it and the bezel formed from micro-blasted black ceramic. It is sealed with black PVD titanium screws, with black composite resin lugs and rubber inserts. The dial colors include green, a nod to Bolt’s Jamaican heritage and a 2N gold coating, which is Bolt’s favorite color.
A grey anthracite silhouette of Bolt in his signature pose is found in the small seconds subdial, at the 9 o’clock position. At 6 o’clock is the green 12-hour subdial. At the 3 o’clock position is a gold 30-minute subdial. A date dislpay is fitted in between the green and gold subdial. And for someone who counts every second as closely as Usain Bolt, a full-sized seconds hand is also included. And the inconic Hublot rubber strap is covered with a special gold synthetic leather, which is the same used in the gold shoes he wore during his record-setting Olympic sprint.
